Central government has initiated a plan to assign 'animal health cards' to cows and buffaloes in India. By the end of 2017, more than 88 million cattle in India will be assigned a unique 12-digit identification number like the Aadhar system.
More than 1,00,000 technicians have been placing yellow tags on animal?s ears. These yellow tags weigh 8gms, are tamper-proof and last for years.
The collected details of each animal will then be fed into an online data -base. Owners of the cow and buffaloes will be given cards, which will help them track activities, attain vaccination-related information and monitor breeding cycle.
